Soda Lake Geothermal: Raw Seismic Data from 2010
Seismic-reflection records created in 2010 around the Soda Lake geothermal field by the power plant operator at the time, Magma Energy (CYRQ Energy in 2024). This is a petroleum-industry-quality three-dimensional (3D) and three-component (3C) seismic reflection survey covering about 36 square miles, one of only two or three such advanced seismic surveys in Nevada. The survey cost millions of dollars, with half coming from the operator and half from a DOE GTP ARRA grant. Several Univ. of Nevada graduate theses have been written based on processed products derived from this raw dataset, and more geophysical and geothermal research could be done with it.
